蒙呆啦　：A self-introduction of Branimir, Guitarist

I was born in Osijek, Eastern Croatia and spent my early youth trying to prove my sporting talents. This intention failed fairly early, and I was faced with plenty of time for musical traning, which I used for guitar practice and theory lessons at the music school in my native town. My progress led to many prizes in national guitar competitions and loss of interest in going to the football stadium, reading too many comics or inventing practical jokes at school. I wrote my first works - two pieces for guitar based on folk tunes from Dalmatia - at the age of twelve, and my father commissioned these works. The money earned was spent mostly on ice cream, which was a very sweet beginning of my career as a composer.

Shortly before my eighteenth birthday I arrived in Cologne, Germany, beginning studies of classical guitar at the "Hochschule fuer Musik". I gained a summa cum laude degree four years later, and immediately undertook postgraduate studies in guitar and composition. The times since 1991 have been difficult, due to the war in my homeland and bombardments of my hometown Osijek. The roaring cannons are said to silence the Muses. On the contrary, this has been a time of passionate composing to me. Having finished my studies, I stayed in Germany beginning my career as a concert guitarist, composer, and performer of my own compositions. My works have been performed in the UK, Germany and Croatia by distinguished musicians, including the Ensemble Hebrides, and broadcast on radio and TV throughout Europe. The composition commissioners include, among others, private art lover Dr. Peter Acland of Birmingham, and The Hope Scott Trust, a major cultural sponsor of Edinburgh. I have received sponsorships from numerous organizations, The Gustav Holst Foundation being one of them. The list of my past teachers includes Charles Ramirez, Eliot Fisk, Ansgar Krause, David Russell for guitar, and Mauricio Kagel, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Johannes Fritsch and Edwin Roxburgh for composition. Besides my activities as a composer and concert performer, I hold teaching posts at the University and The School of Music and Arts in Bielefeld, Germany.
